Embodied Emotion, curated by Alisa Lisovskaia and showcased at the hotel from 1–17 September, is Sassoon’s solo exhibition. It is made up of three connected installations: Starwhisp, a room-scale projection and music composition, and two pieces from the Kaleidoptera series, The Spine, an interactive kinetic sculpture controlled by a playable moss-based bio-interface, and The Coil, a display of Sassoon’s 3D-printed modular robotics.
The three works explore vision, sound, sculpture and interaction, giving physical form to Sassoon’s decade of research into machines, algorithms, embodiment and emotion. Conceived as a single digital happening, the works translate Sassoon’s musical language of rhythm, texture and orchestration into objects, motion and space.
On 12 September, Sassoon will inaugurate this exhibition with a live performance at Panorama on the 24th floor of the hotel, with piano, violin, guitar, drums, biomaterials and Buchla synthesiser amplified live by the 555n Construct, Sassoon’s personal machine intelligence.
